A Thank You and a Request

Thank goodness for Friday. I've had a long week and though I am not usually one to wish away time, I am glad it is over.

I still have some unresolved issues with the great fear of which I'm not ready to see in print yet...and as soon as I know more, I promise that I will spell it out so that I can look back at this trial years from now, and hopefully be laughing my head off at how I let myself get so carried away by all of this irrational thinking.

In the meantime, thank you all so much for the support and prayers. Like many other bloggers, I began blogging merely as a way to keep a daily journal, never dreaming that people would actually read this, let alone comment. I plan to print and bind these pages every year, to have some tangible form of my thoughts.

But a funny thing has happened. I've actually made some friends. My internet friends, I like to call them. You link here, you link there, you make a random comment now and then and presto! people actually write back to you. And it is not at all creepy like I would've thought from having seen too many Dateline episodes. No ma'am. There really are good people out there in this great big world known as the WWW. Unfortunately, they just never get interviewed by Stone Phillips for Dateline. It's always about the ratings.

I had tried to keep a handwritten journal many times, but I have always failed miserably. When given the option at night of crawling under the covers with my remote control and all the HGTV or Dateline I can handle, or sitting up in bed with a pen and miles of blank paper in front of me, I always choose the remote. Always. Because at the end of the day, when I crawl into bed, my hand is tired too.

But sitting up half the night in front of my computer? Now that I can do.

What can I say? My good intentions are always there, but the follow thru, not so much. My plans to journal always start off strong in the bookstore, surrounded by all the beautiful leather bound journals. I rub my hands over them and smell the fresh clean pages. The possibilities seem endless and I have visions that someday my great-grandchildren will be playing in an attic, come across on old dusty trunk and open it. There, they will find stacks of beautiful hardcover books filled with wisdom and grace and history. All printed on clean glossy pages with pictures of happy times. They will pour over them, in awe of what a wise and wonderfully eloquent woman their great-grandmother was.

It is like a scene out of a movie, really.

More likely they will find these books in some random pile at the bottom of a closet somewhere, stuffed into a plastic grocery bag, because that's really more of an accurate representation of how I take care of things. I really am all about preserving the memories.

Anyway...I'm rambling, and I believe I was actually trying to say Thank You! I'm grateful to have met each one of you and, while I still can't believe that I actually have 6 readers, I am so thrilled to know you!

So, sorry I couldn't come up with any of my um, hilarity for you tonight. I think it's very strange to get comments from people saying that I'm 'hilarious.' Because in my house, it is more commonly referred to as dorky. And believe me when I say I could list 5 bloggers off the top of my head right now that are really, really hilarious. Like, snort your drink out of your nose funny. And most definitely, I am not one of them.

I really do just type things out like I talk, and yes I do make my friends laugh, but I tend to think that they are actually laughing at me, even though they swear they are not. They. Swear. It. They are laughing with me, they say. But c'mon now...I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. And besides, if I were a seriously funny blogger, I would entertain and delight day after day, instead of about once every 14.2 posts and fill the rest of the days in with pictures of wild animals stalking my car like we are in Africa on a safari or something.

So, because the theme of this post has been a little bit about how happy I am to know my internet friends, I am going to carry on the great bloggy tradition of the Q&A. That's right. Ask me anything. If you are a regular reader of this blog, and I know in fact that I have 6 of you out there because I am sneaky like that and figured out how to use the sitemeter thingy, there has got to be something, anything that you might be wondering about me. Ask. Me. Things. People. Fire away. I'm an open book. Let's get to know each other better!

If you're not familiar with the Q&A, it's just as the name implies. Leave me a question in the comments and next week I'll do a post with everyones' questions and the answers.

And, have a great weekend!

Hey Lisa, I think it's a great idea to get your blog bound. I might do that, too, once I return from Norway. So I can show the boys later on. Or rather, so when they find it in an old chest in the attic, they'll be amazed at the deep insights of their mother...etc. you know!

I too love that blogosphere is, for the most part, incredibly warm, welcoming and friendly. Yes, it would be wonderful if Dateline would show those happy stories, too.

Do you let your kids read your blog? Why or why not?
Does your husband read it?

I realize those Q's were not really about you... my biggest question about you at the moment concerns the thing that you fear. I am worried that it is health-related. Is it?

You can delete this if you wish. I do not wish to upset you!

I am one of your six lurkers...I'll come out of the lurking closet. I LOVE your blog! I hope whatever is troubling you gets resolved soon.

My query is this: If you could trade places with anyone, who would it be, and why?

Two questions:

If you could have someone come decorate your house, would it be Nate Berkus or Martha Stewart?

Also, when are you coming to a bloggy meet up?

I love reading your blog, especially your Chicago picture. I love the City and come alive when I am down there. That is a great idea of having your blog bound. I hope that some day when I am gone, my family will enjoy reading mine as well.

I just LOVE the idea of putting your blog in a book at the end of the year. Maybe I'll do the same thing...

So, some questions:

What were you like BC (before children)? Job? Hobbies? Great vacations?

What do you do for fun now that does not involve your children? (Trick question, I know.)

Where is your dream vacation destination?

Hi there! You might remember be as the one who covets your laundry room and wanted to know what you keep in your bins! :)

I, too, was just talking about binding and printing my blog for my boys. Great minds think alike?! :)

So, here's my question: With 4 kids do you get a lot of external help from friends/family? I have 3 boys and my MIL helps out a bunch! I'd like to do something extra special for her and wondered if you have ever done something like that?

Here's to making new internet friends!

Hi there! Fun post. I'm not coming up with any funny or creative questions at the moment, but, here goes --

What is your least favorite household chore? And, since I'm a mommy to four kiddos as well, I'm just curious about how many loads of laundry you do per week?

Hi, I happened to lurk upon you through Stie's site. Question: If you had a personal chef, what kind of foods would you eat for dinner?

I'm so sorry you are going through a rough time right now. I hope your fear will not be realized, and that you will, in fact, be laughing soon.

Question:

What is your favorite guilty pleasure in these categories:
food
TV
drink
magazine
and any other one you would like to throw in there.

Are you pregnant with number 5??

:) Just kidding.

I can't think of any clever questions, but when I do, I'll ask them.

Okay,

I've got a question:

When you were a fresh-faced college freshman, what did you think your life would be like at the age you are at now?

I can't wait to see the answers to all of these questions!

Hey Lisa,

First of all, we "know" each other well enough now...I think it is time for you to tell us where your secret tatoo is...I KNOW you have one :) (ha ha)

So, who is it...McSteamy or McDreamy?

If someone asked you in high school what you'd be doing at the age you actually are now, what woudl you have said?

OK - that's it for me! Have fun answering.

OH - I am totally getting that binding done - maybe for Christmas! Love it!
