Chrissy tagged me for this meme weeks (and weeks) ago and I am just now getting to it. I was excited to be tagged by Chrissy, because I have never participated in a meme before, but I was in the middle of the Great Bloggy Q&A, parts 1 & 2, and so I had put it off because really, there is only so much me that you, and me, can take. So here we go. In no particular order. 5 things about me. Interesting? Maybe.
1. I got married in Las Vegas. *Gasp!* I know, I know. Cheesy. Tacky. Klas-say. I know all the cliches, and I've heard all the jokes. No, I wasn't drunk, and I wasn't pregnant either. I really believe that a wedding is about the two people marrying each other, and not all the stuff. So when my mom gave me a wad of cash for the wedding we thought a) we could blow it all on the party or b) we could use it for a down payment on a house. Or condo as it turned out. And it was one of the best decisions we ever made. I count it as the one and only time I've ever done something responsible when given the option to actually spend someone else's money.
2. I am an only child and I was raised by a single mother and my grandparents. My parents were married and when my mom became pregnant her husband decided that he wasn't ready to be a father. So he left before I was even born. Yep, he just left. And I have never even spoken to him. And now, as a parent, I wonder how anyone could ever do that. And for a long time, it was something I struggled with. But I'm over it. So. Over. It. And yes, I think I have a pretty great Mom. And shhh, I secretly stalk him and his new family on the internet every once in a while. My friends always joke that we should do a drive by sometime to just check out his digs. And maybe we will. But I really don't need to.
3. I got lost in London when I was 16. That tube system is Con-Fus-Ing. Even for a city girl like me.
4. I had aspirations to be an Olympic caliber equestrian. Show jumping was my hobby, my sport and my life. Ironically enough, I had a riding accident on a trail ride, of all places, that left me thrown from my horse and in need of a hip replacement, among other things.
5. My maiden name is long. And hard to pronounce. And when I was young I used to say I would marry someone with a short, easy last name. And I did. And I also used to say that because I had such a tiny family and no siblings, I would marry someone with siblings and a huge, loud, close knit family so that I could finally be a part of a big family. And I am.
Okay...so that's it! 5 'interesting' things about me. I am supposed to tag three people so Tag! You're it! to Pedaling at Pedaling Fast, PLo at For Cry Eye, and Ellen, the mom of Two Little Princesses. I love and read all three of these blogs every time I am doing some blog reading. These ladies have beautiful families and I would love to learn 5 things about each of them. And one of them, I am proud to say, is my real life friend. She describes herself as a 'skull wearing mom of four' and indeed, she rocks the skull look. But she still hangs out with boring old me once in a while and is one of the funniest people I know. Can you figure out who it is?

Hey, I found something else we have in common - terrible maiden names and short married names! I'll tell you mine, if you tell me your's (maiden name). LOL!
Haven't been around much with another batch of drama brewing at my house. Hope to get back into the swing of things soon.

Good meme!

Sounds like you got the wedding I dreamed of. I desperately wanted to elope (or have just a living room ceremony with only the immediate families in attendance and no fancy clothes or decorations) and my dad was 150% behind that idea, but it was MY FIANCE, of all people, who wanted the big church wedding. He's since seen the light and regretted not doing it my way, but of course, it's too late now!
It was a second marriage for both of us but we got married in Las Vegas too. Several of our friends got married around the same time (in churches) and they wished they'd done it like us! Easy, inexpensive and FUN!! PS: i'm a friend of Ellen's...she got me hooked on your blog:)
1. that was VERY informative.
2. you have no idea how thrilled i am to be chosen!!!!! ("i'd like to thank the academy. . . ")
Nice to meet you, Melanie.

Ooohhh, if I could do it all again, I'd have done just what you did for the wedding. So jealous of you.
And loved all the other things about you. I think you have a great attitude and I am loving getting to know you!
I have some good friends who met at a craps table in Vegas. (She was visiting friends; he was on a weekend bachelor party trip.)
They have to add three paragraphs of explanations immediately following their "How We Met Story."
Great post. It's so fun to get to know people.
Yea!! I thought you forgot!! Great Meme! I did not get married in Vegas but did do the cake and punch reception and moved on quickly. I do have 2 friends that got married in Vegas and I enjoyed both their weddings, it was a blast!!
Thanks for sharing, I like to read these 5 interesting things about the bloggers.
I finally posted my tag. I of course had to steal #1 from you. Thanks for tagging me!
